Things to consider when casting spells~
CLEARLY IDENTIFY YOUR INTENTION
Most modern-day practitioners of magic and the esoteric will tell you that intention plays a significant role in how our lives unfold. Throughout the ages, many cultures realized, independent of one another, that people have the power to change the world around them solely through intention. This phenomenon has even been observed in a laboratory setting by researchers such as Dean Radin. When you’re creating a spell, it's important to have a clear and concise reason or intention behind it, otherwise, it likely won't produce the desired effect.
2. DECIDE WHAT KIND OF SPELL YOU ARE DOING
Magic can be broken into a variety of categories, and when it comes to spellcasting, three of the most popular categories are ceremonial magic, natural magic, and chaos magic. Note that the lines between these three categories are not rigid, and there is much overlap.
This being said, there are some distinct differences that should be understood. As the name implies, ceremonial magic requires you to perform some sort of ritual or set of instructions to have the spell take effect. When you think of ancient societies moving in synchronized ways, chanting old Latin verses around a fire or altar, you are typically thinking of ceremonial magic. You can also perform ceremonial magic alone. Natural magic is entirely different and involves using items such as stones, herbs, crystals, and other objects to direct energy during spell craft. Chaos magic, which has enjoyed a recent revival, involves focusing your energy and intent on a sigal or symbol, which can then be used to enact real-world change. While this is not a spell in the traditional sense, it still falls under the broad category of spellcasting.
3. CONSIDER POSSIBLE DANGERS
Spellcasting should only be practiced once you have done enough research. While not all spells have the possibility for entity contact, some actually do. Many people have inadvertently brought a spirit into their life by not taking the necessary precautions. For example, many grimoires rely on entity contact to carry out the spell. In these cases, some sort of spirit is contacted, and the user asks them to perform specific tasks. In some cases, these beings may end up attaching themselves to the caster, and this could cause issues down the road. Many people use a knife or other steel instrument and carve a circle in the ground around them, which helps keep them safe. While not all spells involve citing medieval grimoires, and the example outlined here is by far an extreme one, you should always consider the long-term implications of a spell.
4. PROCEED WITH A CLEAR MIND
While engaging in spellcasting, it is very important to keep your mind clear and focused. As we discussed above, much of the effectiveness of magic has to do with intention. If your mind is shifting its focus to other aspects of your life, it could have unintended consequences for the spell or render it altogether ineffective.
